Aruna Irani Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Twice: Silently Fought Both Battles And Emerges Healthy At 80!
Veteran actress Aruna Irani, celebrated for her roles in films like Bombay to Goa and Caravan, has bravely revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer twice, though she chose to fight both battles privately and is now healthy. Nearing 80, and with over 500 films and multiple television shows to her credit, Irani shared her journey candidly. She first noticed something was off during a shoot in 2015, saying, “Aise hi ek din shooting kar rahi thi, pata nahi mujhe kaise pata laga par maine bola ‘Mujhe kuch lag raha hai."

Although doctors initially believed it was a minor lump, Irani insisted on prompt removal. Despite medical advice to undergo chemotherapy, she refused, recalling, “Then the doctor said you will have to take a pill, and I chose that as I was working. How would I shoot if I lose my hair?”
Unfortunately, the cancer returned in March 2020, just prior to the COVID‑19 pandemic. This time, acknowledging her earlier decision as a mistake, she committed to the full treatment. “Meri hi galti thi, as pehle maine chemotherapy nahi lee thi. This time around, I took it,” she admitted.
Although she experienced hair loss, she was reassured that medical advancements had lessened the impact, adding, “Still, you lose a bit of your hair, but woh jaldi aa bhi jaate hai.”
Beyond cancer, Irani also faced diabetes at age 60 and a misdiagnosis suggesting kidney failure—but fortunately, no major intervention was needed, and she has since regained good health.
Irani’s acting legacy is impressive: from debuting as a child in Ganga Jumna (1961) to starring in over 500 films across Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and Gujarati cinema, as well as popular TV serials. She has won two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress, for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap (1984) and Beta (1992), and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
Her story is one of resilience, determination, and an enduring passion for her craft—and today, Aruna Irani stands strong and healthy.
